Put your trust in the Lord

PSALM 38

You Know Me, Lord

You know me, Lord; I long for you.

Don’t beat me down for all my sin

With all my heart I will renew

My faith in Christ who took me in.

Sin’s malady is cause for grief

In pain and sick I am from sin

Lord, you alone can bring relief

Remember me; forgive again.

Protect me, Lord; don’t go away.

When I’m cast down lift up my heart

Surround me with your mighty arms

I trust your word to ne’er depart.

My trust, O Lord, is in your care

In times of stress; in times of rest

I know and trust you will be there

You said you’ll do for me what’s best.

A penitent psalm resulting from David’s grief over sin.  Deserted by friends, persecuted by enemies, he now fears God will forsake him as well.  Yet amid all those feelings he closes the psalm with a petition for God’s continued presence.  Is this not the height of trust in that, under no circumstances, do we lose our faith in God’s promise “to work all things out for good to those who”.  love him
