A Prayer for Walking Closer with God

PSALM 26

Truly the Lord has been Good to Me

Truly the Lord has been good to me

Thus I have tried to keep his Law.

When I fail to live in harmony

And stand before his throne in awe

He sent his Son to take my sin

And make me whole again

When I fail, O Lord, to do what’s right

Cause me to turn to you for grace

Lead me to Jesus who took my plight

To make for me in heaven a place.

He took my sin and made me pure

My future is secure.

Lord, help me avoid all sinful ways

And keep my motives good and pure.

O, never let me be the one who strays

From all that you have made secure.

All praise to you; the victory’s won

The day you sent your Son.

David bares his soul before his God, not only to be vindicated before him, but cleared of the accusations and persecutions of King Saul.  David, here, has also been pictured as a type of Christ in all his sinlessness and innocence.  It is through Christ’s cleansing of us that we can appear to God as an innocent person with integrity.
