God has not forsaken us, He sent His Son

PSALM 22

In My Distress I Ask God, “Why?”

In my distress I ask God, “Why?”

So far from me he seems to be

Did not our Savior also cry

“God, why have you forsaken me?”

Take heart from those who lived before

They trusted in the Father’s grace

He sent his Son them to restore

And in his heav’n they found their place.

Lord, as you helped me in the past

Surrounded by my fearsome foes

I know you’ll be there at the close

Yours is the trust I know will last.

Be not dismayed when troubles come

God promised hope and victory.

His Son has come to take us home

To be with Him eternally.

Lord, from my birth you guided me

You kept me safe through all my years

From sinful ways you kept me free

Your loving care removed my fears.

A messianic psalm in which the Sprit of God moves David to see in his own sinful condition a type of the humiliation of Christ.  And then “the glory of  God is great in his salvation” and causes us to see the exaltation of Christ as he completes the work of our redemption.
