God created us, he saved us and we follow Him

PSALM 19

The Heavens Show Forth Your Glory

The heavens show forth your glory, Lord.

They testify both day and night

You placed them there by your strong Word

They silently show your awesome might.

The sun’s your gift set high each day

It’s brightness and its warmth bring joy

You placed it there to light the way

It’s presence  may we now employ.

The greatness of our God is known

Seeds of creation he has sown

His Word provides the cornerstone

From which all other gifts are strewn

Your precious Son you sent to earth

To cleanse our souls of every sin

His presence here gives us our worth

For now we live because of Him.

O, keep me, Lord, from doing wrong

And from all sin within my heart

I thank you for your love so strong

Now stand by me and never depart.

So, Lord, may I your will perform

Your way is right and good to keep.

May all my life to it conform

And through His Son may heaven I reap.

All glory to our God in heaven

Who kept his word to take our sin

For when Christ died we were forgiven

And to his home invited in.

The two themes that run through this psalm both declare the glory of the Lord.  The one is the presence of his creation where the things we see everyday are evidence enough of the presence and power of Almighty God.  Much greater, though, is his Word, first the Scriptures and then the Word made flesh in Jesus Christ.  This Word clearly sets forth God’s will for our salvation and our faith-filled response
