Trust in the Lord and His Word

PSALM 131

Happy are Those

Happy are those who trust the Lord

They are not haughty, are not proud.

Contentment is their rich reward

They come to him with faith avowed

“All praise to God!” we shout with joy

For Christ has conquered, in heav’n we dwell.

I don’t pretend to know it all

There is yet much I need to learn

Each day I hear the welcome call

That to God’s Word I should return.

“All praise to God!” we shout with joy.

For Christ has conquered, in heav’n we dwell.

I am at peace with you, my Lord.

I give my burdens all to you.

I come to you to hear your Word

That brings your love back into view.

“All praise to God!” we shout with joy.

For Christ has conquered, in heav’n we dwell.

Whene’er my life I can’t control

You lift me up; you are my Lord

You grant me calm, you still my soul

My hope resides in your strong Word.

“All praise to God!” we shout for joy

For Christ has conquered, in heav’n we dwell.

Why did David start out right away by exonerating himself?  Could it be that Saul had represented David as one who sought the crown under pretense of God’s authority and thus did so only out of pride.  May we learn from this to drop all pretense as we sing this psalm in praise of him who has given us the hope of eternal life.
