We praise God because he is always with us and listens to us

PSALM 116

I Love You, Lord

I love you, Lord, because you hear

Whene’er I pray to you.

You gave me answers I hold dear

Your will is mine to do.

You are my Lord; how good you are.

Protect me as your own.

You’re there when I am near or far.

With you I’m ne’er alone.

The Lord has freed me from my bonds

When Christ came from his throne.

And to my needs he did respond.

My sin he did atone.

The Lord is gracious to forgive.

His Son took all my sin.

So by his mercy I may live

Each day I’m born again.

What shall I give unto the Lord?

I give my heartfelt praise.

For all his gifts he has outpoured.

To him my thanks I raise

A psalm of thanksgiving offered in review of God’s many deliverances.  David thanks God for listening to his prayers (what a wonderful gift, if we really think about it – God listening to us), redeeming him from his sins and rescuing him from one danger after another.  Have we not also been beneficiaries of God’s goodness?

And what then shall be our response?  How about if we begin where David began – praise God’s name for saving him and then “offering him the sacrifice of thanksgiving”.  And then, think about it, David did this in the presence of others, rejoicing with his friends over the goodness God has shown him.
