Psalm 102

Hear My Prayer

REFRAIN

Hear my prayer, O Lord.

Hide not your face from me.

Turn me to your Word

Let me your answer see.

My heart is smitten, Lord.

And I forget to eat

Such grief’s upon me poured

At end of day I’m beat.    REFRAIN

Like smoke my days pass by

My bones are burned like fire.

My foes want me to die

                    I’m losing my desire.       REFRAIN

I’m hurting in my soul.

I feel that no one cares.

How can I feel more whole?

My sins Christ Jesus bears.   REFRAIN

The Lord looks down on me

Ne’er busy me to hear.

His love has made me free.

No worries need I bear.      REFRAIN

I praise you, Lord, this day.

Your glory I behold.

You promised that you’d stay

And always my hand hold.   REFRAIN

David wrote this psalm in the midst of his own distress, all the while finding comfort in God’s eternal presence and personal attendance upon his own needs and those of all people.  It is clear also that this is a Messianic prophecy looking ahead to the suffering of the Savior and God’s purpose in that suffering.  The Psalm closes with the comforting assurance that God will not fail to preserve us.
