PSALM 90

A Thousand Years, Lord, in Your Sight

A thousand years, Lord, in your sight

Pass by as though a single hour.

They vanish like a dream at night

The tides of time do us devour.

REFRAIN

Lord, let your wisdom show

that we may focus now

on things above and not below.

Seventy years you give us here

More may be given by your grace

The day will come when you draw near

To take us to your heavenly place.

REFRAIN

O, let the beauty of the Lord

Bring forth from us a gladsome song

We sing of Him who us restored

To live among the heav’nly throng.

REFRAIN

O Jehovah, come us to bless

With years of life your will to do

And grant that we may see success

When all we do is done for you.

A prayer of Moses, the author, offered at the time of Israel’s murmuring and
complaining in the wilderness.  The eternal nature of God comforts the people
in the midst of their own frailty.  As Moses prayed so shall we  --  for a
sanctified use of our affliction, for words of peace at approaching death, for
comfort and joy over the repeated mercies of God, and finally that the Lord
would continue to smile upon us.
