PSALM 119:1-8

Blessed are Those Who Seek to Hear

Blessed are those who seek to hear

God’s Word that warns them of their sin

Salvation’s gift fills us with cheer

May we not turn to sin again.

YOUR WORD IS TRUE; YOUR WILL WE DO

THEN TO PURSUE THE WAY TO YOU.

Walk in the way that God has shown

Trust in his Word to guide your way.

Seek out his will and not your own

Then happiness will fill your day

REFRAIN

As we now strive to do your will

Lord, give us strength that we’ll not fall

Each day our hearts with grace refill

We’ll heed your Word and hear your call.

REFRAIN

We praise you, Lord, with lives that shine

In faithfulness to what you’ve taught.

Not words alone, but hearts incline

To give you glory as we ought.

REFRAIN

Those who seek God with their whole heart and make his will their guide and rule will be happy and blessed people.

PSALM 119:17-24

Open Our Eyes to See Your Word

Open our eyes to see your Word

It is a map to guide us here

It charts our way to you, O Lord

It’s bold commands I hold so dear

Your Word is true.  Your will we do.

Then to pursue the way to you.

Rebuke all those who turn away

That from their sin they may repent

Then guide us all along our way

To know your Son whom you have sent

Your Word is true.  Your will we do.

Then to pursue the way to you.

PSALM 119:25-32

Whenever Faced with Discouragement

Whenever faced with discouragement

Cheer us by your Word

When hearts weigh heavy with dire lament

Cheer us by your Word

KEEP US FAR FROM WRONG

MAKE US EVER STRONG

TO YOU WE ALL BELONG.

We know your plans; now instruct us right

Teach us by your Word

To do your will with a great delight

Teach us by your Word.

REFRAIN

Let me not stray, only to you cling

Help me by your Word

Protect me from Satan’s sin-filled sting

Help me by your Word

REFRAIN

Always God’s Word!  That’s our source of all strength, encouragement and comfort.  We follow it and abide in it, not because there is no other way, but because there is no better way.

PSALM 119:33-40

Make Me Open, Lord

Make me open, Lord, to do

What you are want now to bless

Help me live with you in view

You alone bring happiness

Help me obey along life’s way

Whate’er you say I’ll do each day.

On your path help me remain

It is a delight to me

Turn my heart away from worldly gain

From all sin please set me free.

Help me obey along life’s way

Whate’er you say I’ll do each day.

In your laws, Lord, I do find

Signs of mercy every day

Grant to me your love so kind

By your side I’ll always stay.

Help me obey along life’s way

Whate’er you say I’ll do each day.

PSALM 119:41-48

The psalmist spoke, “You promised, Lord

The psalmist spoke, “You promised, Lord,

Salvation is the gift you’d give.”

In faith I took you at your Word

One day in heaven I will live.

Lord, may I ne’er forget your Word

It is the means by which I’m free

Now with the hope of heav’n restored

I come to you most thankfully.<

Send forth your mercies on us, Lord.

As well your truth found in your Word

All love and grace there you have stored

Upon us all to be outpoured.

Lord, may we share your gracious Word

So others in your truth may grow

And find delight in what they’ve heard

Of all the kindness you bestow.

PSALM 119: 49-56

My Comfort Has Been in Your Word

My comfort has been in your Word

An ever constant source of joy.

Each day its teachings I employ

To keep my thoughts upon you, Lord.

In times of stress I see your hand

Your promise is to ne’er forget

But often I have doubts, and yet

You comfort me; you’re in command.

My  hope is in your Word

It is my strength in every way.

From early youth I did obey

I sing with joy to you, my Lord.

PSALM 119:57-64

Jehovah is Mine!  Him I Will Obey.

Jehovah is mine!  Him I will obey.

Mercy he promised whene’er I do wrong

Sin I confess at the end of each day

His Word I will read; that’s where I belong.

I trust in you, Lord; and I will obey

I give you my thanks for all you have done

Your taught me your ways and though I may stray

You sent your Son; the victory’s now won.

PSALM 119: 65-72

The Lord Sends Trials to Open Our Eyes

The Lord sends trials to open our eyes

To see the dread ways that lead us astray.

His Word is our guide to help realize

The reason to seek and follow his way.

O God, you’ve given much knowledge to me

Good judgment you’ve taught to use what I know.

That in salvation we all may believe

And your holy Word cause our faith to grow.

Your true Word means more than silver and gold

Through it I have come to know about you

It tells of a Savior his birth foretold.

Unfolding his life for all to review.

Wisdom and guidance imparted to me

Revealed in your Word that offers reprieve

Guide me, O dear Lord, that I’ll always see

The bountiful  blessings and gifts I receive

Because it is human nature to neglect God and take his Word for granted when things are going smoothly, difficulties and afflictions are a wake-up call to realize again God’s wonderful blessings of knowledge, wisdom and guidance.  We learn better lessons from our afflictions than our blessings.

PSALM 119:73-80

Your Hands They Fashioned Me

Your hands they fashioned me

Your laws rule my day.

We trust  you joyfully.

And will you obey..

Your ways, O Lord, I see

They are true and right

Your words they comfort me

They are my delight.

The haughty, Lord, subdue,

Or they’ll weigh me down.

I’ll keep my thoughts on you

Who made me your own.

Your mercies come to light

And they comfort me.

Your Word reveals what’s right

Keep it faithfully

We all join in to sing

Of your bounteous love.

Your sent your Son to bring

All to you above.

Because the Lord made us he knows what’s best for us.  Though some choose to ignore him, the faithful Christian, in spite of outward influences, remains faithful to God’s Word.

PSALM 119:81-88

Lord of All Creation, You Know That I Am Weak

Lord of all creation, you know that I am weak

Come now I pray and rescue me.

Lord of all compassion, your tender love I seek.

Come now I pray and comfort me.

REFRAIN:

YOU HAVE SAVED ME FROM ALL EVIL AND DESPAIR

THROUGH THE PRECIOUS BLOOD OF OUR SAVIOR

THROUGH THE PRECIOUS BLOOD OF OUR SAVIOR.

Lord of all truth and life, your Word I always keep.

Ever more faithful I will be.

Lord of all peace and grace, your gifts are what I reap

Ever more thankful I will be.

REFRAIN

Lord of all love divine, by you I do survive

Do not forget me, O my Lord.

Lord of all comfort true, you did my heart revive.

Do not forget me, O my Lord.

REFRAIN

Lord of all great healing, make short my days of pain.

In troubled times you’re all I need.

Lord of all true wisdom, I come to you for gain.

In troubled times you’re all I need.

REFRAIN

Lord of all redemption, you took away my sin.

My life is nothing without you.

Lord of all salvation, Christ came to take me in.

Your holy Word I know is true

REFRAIN

Lord, of all glorious hope, I give my all to you.

My hope is founded on your Word.

Lord of almighty strength, my life each day renew.

My hope is founded on your Word.

REFRAIN

PSALM 119:89-96

O Lord, Your Word Guides Us at Each Life’s Stage

O Lord, your Word guides us at each life’s stage.

It always endures.

Your faithfulness extends to every age

It will never change.

Your Word reflects your perfect will.

Your Word is my command.

O Lord, your Word restores my health and joy.

It is my delight.

Through all my life your words I will employ

I am yours!  Save me!

Your Word reflects your perfect will.

Your Word is my command.

O Lord, your Word, by your decree, endures.

Like the earth you made.

For our salvation you have made secure

By the Son you sent.

Your Word reflects your perfect will.

Your Word is my command.

The steady course of nature, as we see it in the regulation of day and night is but a reflection of the unchangeableness of God’s Word and the certainty of its truths.  It is there to steady us through all the ups and downs of life.

PSALM 119:97-104

Upon Your Word I Daily Dwell

Upon your Word I daily dwell.

As my life’s guide it makes me wise

The way to heaven it tells so well

For all my needs it satisfies.

Your Words are music to my ears.

How sweet they have been to my taste.

I’ve tried to keep them all my years.

When I failed Christ my sins erased

My feet I’ve kept upon your path

All evil, Lord, I will reject

Your Word is vital to my faith

It keeps my actions well in check

Obediently I follow you

Your Word has taught me well indeed

When every day I it review

It satisfies my every need.

All true wisdom is from God.  Make a conscious effort to not only read but also live God’s Word.  It is truly a guide for daily living and eternal life.

PSALM 119:105-112

O Lord, We Walk by Sight

O Lord, we walk by sight and have no fear.

Your Word is our true light.

This dark and evil world makes all things drear.

Your Word makes all things bright.

O LORD, ACCEPT OUR GRATEFUL THANKS

AND TEACH US YOUR DESIRE.

When enemies set up a trap for me

I’ll turn not to their way.

A joyous treasure in your Word I see

Which Word I will obey.

REFRAIN

Determined, Lord, I am to follow you

Your Word is the true way.

Make me open, O Lord,  your will to do.

I promise to obey..

REFRAIN

O Lord, as I approach my pending death

Your Word removes all tears.

In faith I’ll live until my dying breath

And heav’nly light appears.

REFRAIN

What a dark place the world would be without the light of God’s Word.  Though afflicted by enemies without and fears within, we walk by God’s Word which strengthen us.  Thus we offer our grateful thanks.

PSALM 119:113-120

The Lord is My Refuge, He is My Shield

The Lord is my refuge, he is my shield.

His promise gives me hope.

When to his Word  my life I  yield

With all things I can cope.

BE GONE YOU EVIL-MINDED ONES

THE LORD IS ON MY SIDE

The Lord, my protector, ne’er fails to give

A safe place from my foes.

His promise is to let me live

So in me his Word grows.

REFRAIN

When all sin and evil rule with great might

And we begin to doubt

God’s purposes are always right.

They make me more devout.

REFRAIN

A joy-filled life with you awaits heaven

We love your kingdom, Lord.

Your love ne’er fails to us be given

You are true to your Word.

REFRAIN

While sinful thoughts and temptations assail us, God’s Word gives us the strength to resist.  That Word also assures us of his protection from all evil foes. Daily renewal of these promises is needed to keep them fresh.

PSALM 119:121-128

Lord, You Have Shown Your Love for Me.

Lord, you have shown your love for me.

You’ve blessed me with eternity.

Give me the understanding to

Show forth your love in all I do.

Teach me your laws that show the way

To live and only you obey.

Though I have strayed from your decree

You sent your Son to make me free.

I struggle each and every day

With enemies that test my will

To keep your Word and walk your way

I’m grateful that you love me still.

Lord, leave me not in misery.

My foes are want to do me ill.

Just let me live in harmony

And hear your Word and it fulfill.

David’s prayer is for God’s intervention in the case of his enemies who oppose him.  Then asks for instructions in the way he is to live.

PSALM 119:129-136

Look Down in Love, Lord, on Me

Look down in love, Lord, on me

And teach me all your ways.

Your plans, Lord, are clear to see.

I’ll keep them all my days.

May your Word guide me that I

May live for you therein.

You, my soul, did purify

I’ll not give in to sin.

Rescue me from evil ways

You only I’ll obey

Glory be to you and praise

You took my sins away.

Come now have mercy  on me

In Christ you showed your love

From all sin he’s made me free

To live with you above.

The wonderful nature of God’s Word is that it is so clear and understandable.  It sheds light on all we need to know about how to live life here and how to reach eternity.

PSALM 119:137-144

Lord, Your Word Assures Me of Your Love

Lord, your Word assures me of your love.

Though I stray from you, you’re good to me.

Salvation comes from you above

From sin’s distress you have set us free.

We praise your name

Let justice reign

We now proclaim

From you we came

Your promises, Lord, I love them all

What you do with me is always just

You gave your laws to prevent my fall

Therefore in you I’ll put all my trust.

We praise your name

Let justice reign

We now proclaim

From you we came

While trouble and distress come to me

In your Word I find my comfort still.

How wonderful is that victory

That Jesus won on Calvary’s hill

We praise your name

Let justice reign

We now proclaim

From you we came

PSALM 119:145-152

Within My Heart I Long for You

Within my heart I long for you

Help me your ways, Lord, to pursue

O Lord, answer me;

Make me ever free.

From early youth I knew of you.

Your will, O Lord, I want to do.

O Lord, answer me;

Make me ever free.

Each morning when before I rise

My prayers rise up to the skies.

O Lord, answer me;

Make me ever free.

And when at night I lie awake

Your Word, Lord, I will not forsake

O Lord, answer me;

Make me ever free.

All your commands are based on truth.

I’ve known them from my days of youth

O Lord, answer me;

Make me ever free.

Your love for me will never change

My life for death you did exchange.

O Lord, answer me;

Make me ever free.

David turns to the Lord in prayer first thing in the morning and even in the middle of the night.  He urgently asks God to answer him as he testifies to the truth that every Word of God is true.

PSALM 119: 153-160

Lord, Rescue Me; Preserve My life

Lord, rescue me; preserve my life.

Your laws I love to keep.

My Jesus comes to end all strife

When I’m in sin too deep.

Preserve my life from sin’s attack

Your laws I love to keep.

Your Word for me does nothing lack.

With it I do not weep.

From all suff’ring my Savior be.

Your laws I love to keep.

Angels you send to watch o’er me.

Keep me safe as I sleep

PSALM 119: 161-168

Your Word I love to Study, Lord.

Your Word I love to study, Lord.

It is a great treasure to me.

It tells how I am restored

By Jesus’ death on Calvary.

Great peace of mind comes from your Word.

Your salvation it has revealed.

And from that Word your love is poured

From all sins we are now healed.

From all falsehood I turn away.

I love to keep what you reveal.

When Jesus rose on Easter day

Upon my heart you placed your seal.

Now I’m filled with great elation.

God has promised heaven to me.

Let us join in celebration

Of when we’re in his company.

PSALM 119: 169-176

My Prayer Ascends to You, O Lord.

My prayer ascends to you, O Lord.

My lips are filled with wondrous praise.

My tongue sings of your mighty Word

Glory and praise are yours always.

With wisdom, Lord, fill me this day.

That I delight to keep your Laws.

They’re good for me; they show the way.

They lead me from all human flaws.

Your helping hand is there for me.

Whene’er I fall you lift me up.

You saved my life that I may see

Christ came to fill my empty cup.

Your love indeed has rescued me

Salvation came from you alone.

When Jesus died on Calvary

You sealed my life; I am your own.

How delightful it is to spend time in God’s Word and find in it God’s helping hand.  What a privilege to open one’s heart and soul to praise him for all he has done, and know that because of Jesus we are his and his alone.
