PSALM 68

Arise, O Lord, Judge All Your Foes

Arise, O Lord, judge all your foes.

Reduce them now to smoking flax.

They hate to see how your Word grows,

Before your ire melt them like wax.

The Lord, our King to Him we cling,

Praises we bring, in song we sing.

The Lord’s strong ones break forth in song,

They all rejoice to call him, ”Lord.”

They know he’ll crush the evil throng

For he announced it in his Word.

The Lord, our King to Him we cling,

Praises we bring, in song we sing.

 Praise him in the congregation

Praise the Lord in the assembly

Sing of his pow’r with elation

His kingdom will forever be.

The Lord, our King to Him we cling,

Praises we bring, in song we sing.

Praise to the Lord; he is the One

All our burdens he daily bears.

He has for us salvation won

Our God with us his glory shares.

The Lord, our King to Him we cling,

Praises we bring, in song we sing.

David begins this psalm with a prayer that God would pass judgment on his enemies.  From there he quickly moves to fill the rest of the psalm with words of praise for the many things God has done for his people.  He notes all this as a prelude to God’s greatest act – the redemption purchased and won for us by Christ.  He closes the psalm with an invitation for all to join in singing praises to God.
