PSALM 110

Our Savior Comes

Our Savior comes, O joyous day

He comes from royal David’s line

He comes to take our sins away

He comes upon our hearts to shine

He comes to end all tyranny

This Child, the Babe of Bethlehem

He stepped down from eternity

He comes so we have live again

He comes to end all tyranny

This Child, the Babe of Bethlehem

He stepped down from eternity

He comes so we have live again

Our broken lives he does repair

He came from heaven our living Lord

With his own broken life to share

The heav’nly promise now restored

At your side he stands to guide you

Like water from a living spring

The Savior comes us to pursue

Along the way his peace he’ll bring

All praise to you this happy morn

This day our Savior Christ was born

Our joyful songs to him we raise,

To voice our thanks in endless praise.

A Messianic prophecy through and through.  In Matthew 21:44 Jesus quotes the first verse in response to the Pharisees’ answer to his question: “What about the Messiah?  Whose son is he?”  In singing this hymn we rejoice over the beginning of Jesus’ life here on earth, realizing that both his state of humiliation and exaltation is referenced here.  It reminds us of who it is (God himself) that came down to earth in human form.
