PSALM 73

Truly the Lord is Always Good

Truly the Lord is always good.

Still I’m confused by what I see.

When evil thrives I tend to brood

And wonder who God lets that be.

Inside of me there is this feud

I find I’m filled with jealousy.

When I God’s laws work hard to keep.

And sinful men ignore his Word.

It troubles me that they can reap

Such earthly gain as their reward.

I wonder, Lord, are you asleep?

Do you not care?  Have you not heard?

But then one day I went to church

To meditate upon his Word.

I found God’s help that closed my search

My former thoughts now seem absurd.

He will not leave me in the lurch.

That is his promise I have heard.

The counsel of our God is there

To lead us in the way that’s right.

He strengthens us that we may bear

The rigors of our daily plight

His Son has made our sins snow white.

Now bless the Lord with all your might.

Know that in life his help is free.

Where e’er you are he holds your hand.

Then praise the Lord most thankfully

For he has helped us understand.

The Son he sent gained victory

And leads us to the Promised Land.
